Author Description
Niccolò Ratto (Genoa, 1985) is an author, essayist, and film critic.
He studied Cinema and Mass Media at the Accademia Internazionale per le Arti e le Scienze dell’Immagine, later gaining first-hand experience on film sets and contributing to major publications, including The Hollywood Reporter.
His work moves between cinema and literature, exploring the enduring power of myth, archetypes, and the symbolic structures that shape the collective imagination. His research is particularly concerned with the ways in which ancient figures, narratives, and cultural patterns return in the present, taking on new forms and meanings as the societies that inherit them continue to change. Folklore, the occult, and esoteric traditions form a central part of this inquiry.
Working across nonfiction, fiction, translation, and editorial curation, Ratto has published the essays Nosferatu – Anatomia di un Mito, Austin Osman Spare. L’arte del rifiuto, and Marco Bellocchio. La tela bianca, dall’inconscio allo schermo; the short stories Pezzi di ricambio, Cenere Neurale, and Un pick-up color ruggine; the illustrated book Cruccio – Fuga dal mondo delle preoccupazioni; and the experimental art book ReNoir – Anima Mundi.
He lives in Genova, Italy
